NEW WARNING
Bayer has issued a “Dear Health Care Professional” letter regarding its stem cell stimulator sargramostim (Leukine), used to stimulate immune cell function after chemotherapy. Reports of frequent adverse effects, including fainting, has led to the discontinuation of the liquid formulation of Leukine. Providers are encouraged to stop using the liquid formulation and instead use lypholized Leukine, which hasn’t been associated with the reported adverse effects. A special access program has been put into place to make sure that the lypholized product gets to the patients with the highest priority until supplies have been increased to meet all needs.
